Success Story

Cleveland Heights Solar Initiative

Cleveland Heights, a vibrant community in Ohio, embarked on a journey to reduce its environmental footprint and stabilize long-term energy expenses for key public facilities. Facing rising energy costs and a commitment to sustainability, the city sought a solution that would deliver both financial savings and environmental benefits.

SOLAR SOLUTION
The city decided to install solar arrays on three essential buildings: City Hall, the Community Center, and the Service Garage. Together, these installations span over 38,000 square feet, utilizing 1,350 solar panels to generate a total of 617,000 kWh of clean energy annually. These systems are expected to power a significant portion of the buildings’ energy needs, dramatically reducing the city’s reliance on grid electricity and cutting operational costs.

RESULT
Within the first year of operation, the solar installations are projected to save Cleveland Heights approximately $40,000 in energy costs while offsetting 880 metric tons of carbon dioxide. This initiative supports the city’s broader climate action goals, making a bold statement about Cleveland Heights’ dedication to sustainability and setting a benchmark for other municipalities to follow.

“By transitioning to solar, we’ve been able to reinvest in essential community services while significantly reducing our environmental impact. It’s a long-term win for both our budget and our community.”

We installed a solar ATM machine at our facility

“For perspective, around two thirds of our electricity for our campus comes from our parking lots. This is going to really help us slash our carbon footprint, but also for reference, this will save us $300,000 on our electric bill, next year alone. And the cumulative savings for this over the next 30 years is many, many, many millions of dollars. So this is a big part of our long term financial sustainability plan.”

Solar Solutions that Power Communities

Solar energy is more than just a smart investment in your municipality’s infrastructure—it’s an investment in your community’s health and prosperity. Cities across the Midwest, like Cleveland Heights, have seen the environmental and economic benefits of going solar. This investment has not only led to significant savings but has also increased public support and engagement in sustainability initiatives. Solar energy can empower your city to make an impact on the environment, the community, and the future, all while reducing energy costs.

30% Federal Solar Incentive & Direct Pay for Municipalities

Municipalities can take advantage of the 30% Federal Solar Incentive, which dramatically reduces the initial cost of installing solar energy systems. Through the Inflation Reduction Act, municipalities qualify for the Direct Pay option, allowing them to receive the incentive as a direct payment, making solar adoption even more affordable. This option enables local governments to transition to clean energy without the burden of high upfront costs. Additionally, many states in the Midwest offer additional grants and incentives, making solar energy a financially viable solution for municipalities of all sizes.
