Charging Your Business into the Future!
PROVIDE CONVENIENT, SUSTAINABLE CHARGING FOR EMPLOYEES AND CUSTOMERS ALIKE.
Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are becoming a common amenity for businesses looking to support their employees and customers who have chosen greener transportation options. At Melink Solar, we proudly support 65 EV chargers at our Milford, OH HQ for employees and visitors! When evaluating EV chargers for your business, it’s important to consider factors such as location, available power capacity, parking layout, and the expected volume of use.
For commercial installations, charging stations can be configured to operate exclusively when and how your business needs them, ensuring they aren’t open to the public or accessible outside of business hours. This flexibility allows businesses to manage charging in a way that suits their unique needs, whether for employees, customers, or fleet vehicles, without unnecessary complications.

AN INTRO TO EV CHARGERS

CHARGING UP AT WORK
Level 2 Chargers:
Level-2 EV chargers are a reliable and efficient solution for commercial businesses looking to provide electric vehicle charging for employees or customers. With a charging capacity of up to 11 kW, these chargers can typically add between 25 to 40 miles of range per hour of charging, depending on the vehicle and conditions. This makes them ideal for locations where vehicles will be parked for several hours, such as during work shifts or while customers are visiting.
Level-2 chargers are compatible with a wide range of electric vehicles and typically use the SAE J1772 plug (or J-Plugs), the most common type found on most EVs. Some models may also support NACS (Tesla) plugs, ensuring broad compatibility with both mainstream and Tesla vehicles. These chargers can be installed with flexibility, allowing businesses to manage their use in a way that suits their needs – whether for employee use or to support fleet vehicles.
CHARGING SPECIFIC TO YOUR BUSINESS
Smart Chargers:
When selecting EV chargers for your business, there are a variety of options that can be tailored to meet your specific needs. Whether you want to offer charging for employees, customers, or fleet vehicles, it’s important to consider flexibility, ease of use, and control over access.
Many chargers offer the ability to customize the user interface with custom branding on posts or screens, allowing you to align the charging experience with your company’s identity. Access to chargers can be controlled through key cards, security badges, or QR codes, ensuring that only authorized users can utilize the stations. Additionally, chargers can be programmed with time restrictions to operate only during certain hours, such as Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, making them ideal for businesses that want to optimize energy consumption.
For businesses looking to manage energy use even more efficiently, chargers can also be integrated with a Building Management System (BMS) to be disabled during peak power usage periods, helping you avoid higher electricity rates. This gives you more control over when and how the chargers operate, ensuring they are a sustainable and cost-effective addition to your business

What to Consider and Next Steps
When planning for EV chargers, it’s crucial to evaluate your business’s energy requirements, space availability, and the expected usage frequency. A few key considerations include:
- Location & Power Supply: Where will the chargers be located, and do you have sufficient electrical capacity to support the chargers?
- Charger Type & Quantity: How many chargers will you need, and which type (Level 1, Level 2) is most suitable for your business?
- Access Control & Customization: Do you want to manage who uses the chargers with key cards, badges, or QR codes? Should the chargers be branded with your logo or custom displays?
- Time-of-Use & Energy Efficiency: Would you like to set time restrictions on charger usage or integrate them with a Building Management System (BMS) to avoid peak electricity rates?
