Miami University
Two new ground mount solar arrays, Western Solar North and South, are the centerpieces of the new Sharon and Graham Mitchell Sustainability Park at Miami University. The Melink Solar team installed more than 3,300 solar panels across two fields: one positioned atop Miami’s Western Geothermal Well field, a system completed in 2014 with 690 wells drilled 600 feet deep, and the other at the former site of Thomson Hall. The arrays are projected to generate around 2,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity annually, which is equivalent to powering the residence hall rooms of more than 1,000 students. The park, which also features walking paths, seating areas, lighting, and gateway entrances, supports Miami’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.
